Meet ChatGPT's Desktop Agent: Your AI-Powered Computer Assistant

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Agent, a groundbreaking AI tool that transforms ChatGPT from a conversational chatbot into an active digital assistant capable of executing complex tasks.

Available now for Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers, with Enterprise and Education access coming later this year, this feature marks a significant leap in AI functionality.

How It Works?

Users activate "Agent Mode" via ChatGPT’s dropdown menu, then delegate tasks using natural language commands like:

  • "Review my calendar and brief me on upcoming client meetings."

  • "Plan and purchase ingredients for a Japanese breakfast for four."

  • "Create a presentation analyzing Q2 sales data."

Powered by a virtual computer, the Agent autonomously performs actions such as web browsing, calendar management, spreadsheet creation, and even online purchases, while requesting user approval for sensitive steps like email sends or bookings.

Key Features

  • Task Automation: Handles multi-step workflows (e.g., researching, comparing, and ordering items).

  • Advanced Reasoning: Scores 41.6% on Humanity’s Last Exam (double OpenAI’s previous models).

  • Math Capabilities: Achieves 27.4% on advanced math tests vs. older models’ 6.3%.

  • Usage Limits: 400 monthly queries for Pro users; 40 for Team/Plus subscribers.

The Minds Behind the Tech

The project is led by Yash Kumar (IIIT Hyderabad alumnus) and research lead Isa Fulford, who demonstrated Agent planning a date night and compiling a research report. Built on OpenAI’s earlier tools like Operator (web task automation) and Deep Research (data analysis), the Agent combines reinforcement learning with new safeguards to mitigate risks.

While competitors focus on Q&A chatbots, OpenAI is pioneering AI-as-assistant technology.

As global AI competition intensifies, from China’s DeepSeek to the U.S.’s $500B "Stargate" project, ChatGPT Agent sets a new benchmark for practical AI applications.

The tool remains slower than human execution (tasks may take 15–60 minutes) and avoids high-risk actions like bank transfers. CEO Sam Altman advises users to "grant minimal access" for privacy but touts its potential to handle wedding planning, data analysis, and other complex workflows.

With this release, OpenAI redefines what AI can do, not just say, for users worldwide.

93% of Organizations Now Building or Planning Custom AI Agents

A recent report by OutSystems, in collaboration with CIO Dive and KPMG, reveals that 93% of organizations are either developing or planning to develop custom AI agents.

Titled Navigating Agentic AI & Generative AI in Software Development: Human-Agent Collaboration, the study surveyed 550 global software executives, highlighting the growing prioritization of agentic AI in business strategies.

AI-Driven Efficiency & Innovation

Today’s IT leaders are under pressure to deliver measurable business value amid limited resources and complex tech landscapes. Agentic AI offers a solution by:

  • Automating large-scale processes

  • Enabling hyper-personalized digital experiences

  • Breaking down data silos while ensuring compliance and security

This shift is paving the way for autonomous, AI-first operations, with 46% of executives already integrating agentic AI into workflows and 28% piloting solutions.

Workforce Evolution & New Opportunities

The next two years will see significant workforce transformation, driven by AI adoption.

  • 69% of leaders expect new, specialized roles to emerge.

  • 63% believe substantial upskilling will be necessary for development teams.

  • Customer support is the top priority (49%), followed by product development (38%) and sales/marketing (32%).

However, challenges like AI sprawl and technical debt (cited by 44%) highlight the need for strategic oversight.

The Future: AI as a Collaborative Partner

According to Woodson Martin, CEO of OutSystems, AI agents will soon act as specialized teams, proactively optimizing software solutions while allowing humans to focus on creativity and strategy. This evolution promises to redefine collaboration between technology and talent, ushering in a new era of innovation.

Oracle's New MCP Server Brings Context-Aware AI to Business Data

Oracle has launched a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, enabling enterprises to build AI-driven agentic applications that autonomously query, analyze, and reason over data stored in Oracle Databases. This innovation delivers context-aware insights while simplifying integration for developers.

Seamless Integration with Oracle SQLcl

The MCP server is embedded in Oracle SQLcl, the command-line interface for Oracle Database, which is also part of Oracle SQL Developer for VS Code. Key features include:

  • Secure AI assistant connectivity to Oracle Database

  • Automated SQL/PL/SQL query execution without custom integrations

  • Credential management for enhanced security

Unlocking Enterprise AI Potential

According to Charlie Dai, VP at Forrester, this solution removes adoption barriers in regulated industries like healthcare, retail, and BFSI by:

  • Automating natural language-based database queries

  • Eliminating manual SQL tasks, boosting developer productivity

  • Enabling LLM-powered agents to interact with Oracle data seamlessly

Raya Mukherjee, Senior Analyst at Everest Group, highlights industry-specific use cases:

  • BFSI: Fraud detection, compliance reporting, audit trail retrieval

  • Retail: Demand forecasting, sales trend analysis, inventory management via ERP-linked Oracle systems

Empowering Business Users

Beyond developers, the MCP server allows business teams to instantly query databases for insights beyond standard dashboards, accelerating data-driven decision-making.

Oracle’s move signals a strategic shift toward autonomous, AI-augmented enterprise workflows, reducing complexity while maximizing data utility.
