How AI is Making Home Blood Pressure Monitoring More Trustworthy
According to new research presented at the American Heart Association’s Hypertension Scientific Sessions 2025, an AI voice agent system significantly improved how older adults with high blood pressure report their readings and manage their condition.
The study, led by Dr. Tina-Ann Kerr Thompson of Emory Healthcare, involved 2,000 mostly older adults.
It used a conversational AI system to call patients and ask them to report their blood pressure readings, a task that is often a challenge and is typically done by healthcare staff.
This is the dashboard of my Clinic's Hypertension Monitoring tool.
When I log into the admin dashboard, I will review your daily blood pressure readings and advise you thereafter.
Currently, there are 2107 patients on the dashboard.

The AI, which operated in English and Spanish, could also identify patients needing urgent follow-up care based on their readings or reported symptoms (like chest pain or dizziness), immediately escalating those calls to a nurse.
This approach proved highly effective and efficient:
The AI successfully reached 85% of patients.
It resulted in a nearly 89% reduction in cost per reading compared to using human nurses for the same task.
It dramatically improved the clinic's blood pressure management rating from 1 to 4 stars.
Patient satisfaction with the AI interaction was very high, averaging over 9 out of 10.
Experts not involved in the study, like Dr. Eugene Yang, called it a potential "game-changer" for using technology to overcome barriers to care.
The study did have limitations, including the lack of a control group for comparison and its observational, retrospective design.
The system worked by identifying patients with missing or high blood pressure data in their electronic health records.
The AI would then contact them to get a reading, which was logged into their record for clinician review. This process helped close gaps in care and automate referrals for patients with uncontrolled hypertension.
Global AI Agent Competition Intensifies as DeepSeek Prepares Launch
Chinese AI firm DeepSeek is developing a next-generation AI agent, named R2, with plans to launch it by the end of 2025 to compete with major global entities like OpenAI.
According to Bloomberg sources, this new technology represents a significant advancement beyond standard chatbots.
Unlike conventional models that provide simple text responses, this "agentic AI" can independently execute complex, multi-step tasks, such as planning trips or debugging code, while learning from its actions to improve over time, requiring far less human intervention.

This move follows the success of DeepSeek's earlier R1 platform, which was reportedly developed at a much lower cost than its U.S. competitors while matching or exceeding their performance in benchmarks.
The company's founder, Liang Wenfeng, has adopted a deliberate development strategy, focusing on refinement over rapid releases, which may explain the timeline for R2. This cautious approach may help avoid pitfalls that have affected other fast-moving startups.
The global race for autonomous AI agents is accelerating, with players like OpenAI, Microsoft, Anthropic, and China's Manus AI all working on similar technology. Analysts believe this evolution will transform productivity and business operations worldwide.
🚨BREAKING: #DeepSeek R2
It's no surprise that rumors about @deepseek_ai R2 are trending again. For a stay out of the spotlight team with an extreme pursuit of engineering perfection, R2 might just be a new beginning.

For UAE investors and businesses, DeepSeek’s progress offers several key implications:
Business Applications: Potential to optimize operations in sectors like finance, healthcare, and logistics.
Investment Opportunity: Early engagement in the expanding agentic AI market could yield substantial returns.
Strategic Partnerships: UAE tech firms could license or integrate this AI to strengthen their regional competitive advantage.
Workforce Development: Early adoption could help upskill teams and enhance operational efficiency.
Although DeepSeek has not made any public statements, the anticipated release of R2 could be a major milestone in AI, with significant consequences for global investment and enterprise technology strategies, particularly in the UAE.
Is Your Business Ready? AI Agents Are About to Change Everything
The business landscape is on the verge of a profound transformation, driven by the rise of AI agents. While earlier discussions highlighted how these autonomous, problem-solving systems will reshape work and redefine jobs, their influence is expected to extend even further, fundamentally altering how organizations function, innovate, and scale.
This shift goes beyond automating tasks or boosting efficiency. AI agents have the potential to unlock entirely new business models and redefine how products and services are delivered.
For current business leaders, this represents both a major opportunity and a significant risk. Organizations that can adapt swiftly and integrate agentic business models will be best positioned to succeed.
So what are AI agents, and how can businesses leverage them effectively?
AI Agents: The Next Wave of Business AI
AI is already reshaping industries from the machine learning that drives companies like Amazon and Google to generative AI tools like ChatGPT that automate knowledge work. AI agents represent the next evolutionary step: they don’t just analyze or generate information, they take action.
For example:
In marketing, machine learning segments audiences, generative AI creates content, and agentic AI delivers that content, tracks engagement, sends follow-ups, and continuously optimizes campaigns.
In retail, machine learning predicts demand, generative AI generates orders, and agentic AI autonomously places orders, negotiates with suppliers, and manages inventory.
Despite the hype, often fueled by vendors, the potential of agentic AI is clear: it enables businesses to operate in more autonomous, intelligent, and interconnected ways.

How Agentic AI Will Reshape Business
AI agents will impact organizations on multiple levels. They will streamline operations, reduce manual workloads, and free up employees for higher-value tasks, handling everything from scheduling and reporting to compliance and administrative duties.
But the real breakthrough lies in innovation. Just as machine learning enabled new models of prediction and personalization, agentic AI will allow companies to do what was previously impossible. For instance:
Financial services could use agents to scan markets, execute trades, and manage portfolios and compliance in real time.
Healthcare could see agents coordinating patient care, staying updated on medical research, and autonomously managing public health responses.
Manufacturing agents could oversee end-to-end production, predict bottlenecks, and dynamically adjust workflows.
Across sectors, the goal is the same: empower humans to focus on strategy, creativity, and communication, areas where people still excel.
The Rise of Truly Autonomous Organizations
Agentic AI offers a path beyond automating decisions, toward automating action. These systems can set goals, determine the steps needed to achieve them, interact with external platforms, and drive processes to completion without constant human intervention.
This autonomy comes with risks, however. Establishing where human oversight remains essential and implementing strong safeguards will be critical leadership responsibilities in the years ahead. Those who master the balance between automation and control will be highly valued.
